What is Wheezing?
Wheezing is a high pitched whistling sound that occurs while someone breathes. It is heard usually when someone exhales and in extreme cases, it is also heard when someone inhales in too. This is caused by inflammation and narrowed airways. Wheezing may also indicate a serious underlying breathing issue that requires immediate diagnosis and treatment.
Causes
The most common causes of wheezing are Asthma and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). There are many other causes of wheezing too. A right pulmonologist can determine the reason.
Seeking medical help
You should seek medical help when you experience wheezing for the first time. The doctor will determine if you are wheezing or having any other breathing issue.
Treatment
Treatment can be done in two ways
- Either by controlling the inflammation in airways
- Or by opening up the breathing tubes with medications
A pulmonologist will determine the right option for you. Consult with the best pulmonologist near you for the right diagnosis and treatment.
