What is C-Section?

Cesarean delivery, also known as a C-section is a surgical way to deliver a baby by the use of incisions in the abdomen and uterus. C-sections may be chosen prior to birth but the need for it the first time will not be obvious until labor starts. It’s done if labor isn’t moving along/is stalled, the baby is in distress, baby/babies are in an abnormal position, there is a current health concern in the carrier, etc.

Treatment

Before the C-section, the patient will have their abdomen cleansed and will have any urine within them collected. Regional anesthesia, which affects the lower part of the body, will be given and the operation is done while conscious. During the procedure, an abdominal incision is made, followed by a uterine incision and then the delivery. After the C-section, the patient will stay at the hospital for a couple of days while being advised on pain relief options available for them by the doctor. Once they are ready to leave the hospital, they are advised to recover and rest as much as possible to heal. They must take it easy and use pain relief when necessary.
