What is Inguinal Hernia?

An inguinal hernia is a hernia that appears when a tissue penetrates into the abdominal muscles through a weak spot creating a bulge. This may cause pain on that bulge which is felt when coughing, when bending over, or while lifting a heavy object. The hernia isn’t dangerous but it doesn’t improve on its own and can lead to life-threatening problems. It can be caused by pregnancy, constant coughing/sneezing, highly straining activity, increased pressure inside the abdomen, and more reasons.

Treatment

Usually when any hernia is small, the doctor prefers to wait and see if it grows in size and becomes worse. Once this does happen, the only way to fix it is by performing surgery and there are two ways to do this. Either by an open hernia repair or laparoscopy. While laparoscopy is minimally invasive and has a lesser recovery time, a recurrence of the hernia is more likely than it is in an open hernia surgery so that may be a better option but that also means several weeks before the patient resumes normal activity. HospitALL provides the best doctors and surgeons to treat inguinal hernias.
